The San Joaquin Valley is farmland at scale: roughly 400 km of orchards, vineyards, dairies and oil fields between the Diablo Range and the Sierra Nevada. There is little sightseeing in the towns themselves, but the valley sits between the Bay Area, Los Angeles, the Sierra Nevada and Yosemite, and it is the cheapest place in California to sleep between those. Treat it as a corridor with two or three worthwhile stops, not a place to base a trip.
