Base in Santa Cruz or La Laguna and come here for one half-day: 15 min by car or bus 910/945/946/947, castle and Las Teresitas beach, then leave.
San Andrés is a fishing village 15 minutes east of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at the mouth of the Anaga mountains. It has one real draw — the 1 km white-sand Las Teresitas beach, built in 1973 with imported Saharan sand — plus a small castle, a 16th-century church and the start of the Anaga walks. Almost nobody needs to sleep here: the beach is a day trip, the village is small, and the accommodation is thin. Come for the beach and the Anaga trailhead, eat seafood, and go back to Santa Cruz or La Laguna for the night.

Get around
On foot. The village is small but the streets are steep and narrow, so cycling is hard work. Buses 910, 945, 946 and 947 run through San Andrés; get off at Rosario for the historic centre. By car, the TF-11 leads straight in from Santa Cruz in about 15 min; parking near Las Teresitas fills on sunny days and the free lot on the south-west side of the beach is the fallback.

- Anaga trails have no shops or water points: carry more water than you think you need.
- The beach is sheltered by a 1 km breakwater, so there are almost no waves for surfing.
