Samara is Russia's sixth-largest city, a Volga port and a World War II second capital, when it was called Kuibyshev. The centre is walkable along the river; the metro is one east-west line. Two nights covers the embankment, Old Samara and the space museum. It is a long haul from Moscow by train (13-20 h) and a short flight.

Get around
The metro is a single east-west line (23 RUB a trip, 21 RUB with a transport e-card, 2026 estimate) and does not reach Old Samara. Buses, trams and marshrutkas fill the gaps; the centre is walkable. Taxis are cheap by Western standards; agree the price or use an app.
