Sam Neua is a small provincial capital of about 30,000 people in the remote, mountainous Hua Phan province. The town itself has limited sights, but it provides easy access to nearby attractions such as Vieng Xai caves, Namnoua waterfall and Hintang Archaeological Park. With a walkable centre, a few guesthouses and cheap food, a short stay of 1–2 days is enough to see the town and make a day trip to the surrounding sites.
