Salou
Give Salou 2 nights if PortAventura is the point; 1 night if you only want the beach and promenade. Skip it if you want a Spanish town rather than a resort.
Salou is the Costa Daurada's resort capital: a 27,000-person town that swells in summer around Llevant Beach, the Passeig Jaume I promenade and PortAventura World, 10 km from Tarragona. It is a beach-and-theme-park base, not a sightseeing city. Two nights covers the park and the beach; one night is enough for the promenade and the old church. Outside June–September much of the seafront is quiet and some businesses shut.

Get around
The centre, beach and old town are walkable in 20–30 minutes end to end. Local buses (Plana) and taxis cover Cap Salou and the park. Salou's town-centre railway station closed in January 2020; the nearest stop is PortAventura, on the Tarragona–Amposta line, up the promenade. The E6 bus links Salou with Tarragona's bus station via Vila-seca, with about 12 trips on weekdays, 7 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday.

Scams and watch-outs
- The town-centre train station is closed; do not plan on it. Use PortAventura station or the bus.

- Summer heat and sun on the beach are the real risk; shade and water matter more than anything else.
- Bars and clubs on the seafront: ask the price before you order, and keep an eye on your tab.
- Many seafront restaurants and shops close from November to March; check before booking a winter trip.
Salou is a busy resort and generally safe by day; the risks are summer heat, sea currents on exposed beaches, and late-night bar tabs. Keep bags zipped on the promenade and never leave valuables on the sand.
