Salo
Give Salo one night, or a half-day stop on the Helsinki–Turku train: the town itself is small, the ironworks villages and Teijo park are the reason to come.
Salo is a small city in Finland Proper, 50 km east of Turku and 120 km west of Helsinki, on the coastal rail line. It grew around electronics production and is still known for the Nokia years. The centre takes a few hours; the historic ironworks villages of Perniö and the trails of Teijo National Park, 17–25 km south, are what justify a night. Most travellers pass through on the train between Helsinki and Turku, or use Salo as a quiet base for the Finnish countryside.

Get around
The centre is walkable. Local buses run inside Salo and to nearby villages, but services are thin in the evening and on Sundays; a car or taxi is the practical way to reach Teijo, Mathildedal and the churches. Taxis are ordered by app (Menevä, Valopilkku, 02 Taksi).
