Sakaide
坂出
Sakaide is a 2–3 hour stop for the Seto Ohashi Bridge viewpoint and soy sauce museum, not a base. Half a day is enough; sleep in Takamatsu or Marugame.
Sakaide sits at the Shikoku end of the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the 13-km bridge-and-viaduct system that connects Honshu and Shikoku. The city has a handful of low-key sights — a doll museum, a soy sauce museum, a temple on the Shikoku pilgrimage — but nothing that demands a night. Most travellers use it as a photo stop on the way to or from the bridge, or combine it with a visit to Marugame or Takamatsu.

Scams and watch-outs
- The Seto Ohashi Bridge viewpoint has no shade; bring water on a sunny day.
- Shiromine-ji is a pilgrimage temple: be quiet and respectful.
- Buses are sparse on Sundays and public holidays.
Sakaide is a quiet, safe city. The main risk is heatstroke in summer at the open bridge viewpoint. Traffic on the bridge road is fast; use the pedestrian path.
