Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a village of about 2,850 people on the St Lawrence, 33 km east of Québec City, built around one enormous pilgrimage basilica. Almost everyone visits on a day trip from the city; the village itself is a strip of motels, diners and a wood-sculpture museum along Route 138. It works as a base only for the basilica at quiet hours or for Mont-Sainte-Anne, 15 min up the hill.
