Saint-Lambert
Stay 1 night only if you want a quiet, walkable base 15 min from Montréal by train; otherwise day-trip from Montréal for the market and riverside path.
Saint-Lambert is a small, low-rise suburb on the south shore of the St. Lawrence, across from Montréal. Its 19th-century red-brick core, a riverside park on the seaway and a summer farmers' market fill a half day; the train station puts downtown Montréal about 15 minutes away, so most travellers sleep in the city and come out for an afternoon, or use it as a cheaper, calmer base.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- Winter ice on pavements and park paths: wear traction soles Dec–Mar.
- Sales tax is added at the till; posted prices are before tax.
- Tipping 15–20% at restaurants is expected.
- The riverside path is shared with cyclists and skaters: keep right.
Very safe for a suburb of its size; the real risks are winter ice, fast cyclists on the shared riverside path, and summer heat on the exposed seaway jetty.
