Skip as a base: Saint-Amable is a half-day stop for Parc Le Rocher and the woods, 40 min from Montréal. Sleep in Sainte-Julie or Boucherville instead.
Saint-Amable is a small Montérégie town of farmland, light industry and two large woodlands, about 36 km east of Montréal. There is no hotel strip and no old quarter to wander: the reason to come is Parc Le Rocher, a 370-acre former sand pit turned free outdoor park with trails, sports fields, a winter rink and a sledding slope. Treat it as a half-day or a picnic stop on a Richelieu-valley drive, not a destination you build a trip around.

A car is effectively required: the town spreads along rue Principale and the park sits on rue Thomas with no useful bus service. From Montréal take the Jacques-Cartier bridge, Route 132 east, then Autoroute 20 east and Autoroute 30 north to chemin de la Belle Rivière. From Québec City it is about 2 h 30 min via Autoroute 20 west and Route 229.
