Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean is bigger than Portugal and has no rail spine, so the car decides your trip. Sleep in Chicoutimi (now part of Ville de Saguenay) for the fjord, whale-watching day trips and the pulp-mill museum; sleep in Roberval, Alma or Chambord for Lac Saint-Jean beaches, the zoo and Val-Jalbert. Two bases, three to four nights, one long drive between them.
