Rustenburg
Skip Rustenburg as a base unless you are visiting Sun City or Pilanesberg: spend one night for a day trip to either; otherwise pass through on the N4.
Rustenburg is a mining city and the gateway to Sun City and Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Its own sights — a Boer War museum, a mountain reserve, predator parks — fill a day, but the city itself has little charm. Most travellers sleep here for one night before or after a safari.
