Go for 3–4 nights if you ski or hike: 35 slopes, 200+ ski days, gondola year-round. Skip if you want a town — Ruka is a fell village, not a city.
Ruka is Finland's second-busiest ski resort, a compact pedestrian village on a 492 m hill about 23 km north of Kuusamo. The season runs over 200 days — early October to early May — and summer brings the Karhunkierros trail and the gondola. Three to four nights covers skiing or hiking without rushing; two nights is the minimum that justifies the transfer.
