Ruijin is a small mountain city in southeast Jiangxi, near the Fujian and Guangdong borders, and the capital of the Chinese Soviet Republic from 1931 until the Long March set out in 1934. The sights are heritage villages and memorial halls, spread 10–20 minutes by car from the centre, so most visitors come for one focused day of red tourism and leave.

Get around
City buses cost ¥1–2 a ride and link the station, the airport, the centre and the Yeping and Shazhouba sites. Driving is the easiest way to reach the villages, 10–20 minutes from downtown, and shared bikes work for short hops in the centre. Taxis and ride-hailing are cheap but sparse outside town.
