Romney
Romney is a half-day stop on a Potomac Highlands road trip: see the Potomac Eagle train and walk the historic district, then move on. One night only if you want a quiet base for hiking.
Romney is a small town (pop. ~450) on US 50 in West Virginia's Potomac Highlands. Its main draw is the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, which runs through the Trough, a narrow gorge with bald eagles. The historic district has a few 19th-century buildings and a visitor centre. Most travellers pass through in a few hours or stay one night as a base for the Cacapon River and South Branch Valley.
