Rocky Top
Half a day or a stopover on I-75: the Coal Creek Miners Museum and Norris Dam State Park are the draws. Not a base.
Rocky Top (formerly Coal Creek / Lake City) is a small town on Interstate 75, about 30 minutes north of Knoxville. It was renamed in 2014 after the folk song. Most visitors stop for the Coal Creek Miners Museum and to explore Norris Dam State Park, 8 km east. One afternoon covers the town; an overnight works if you want to hike or boat at the park.
