Rockwood Park
Rockwood Conservation Area
Go for one day, not a base: caves, glacial potholes and mill ruins on a short trail loop. Sleep here only if you camp May 1–Oct 15.
Rockwood Park is a Grand River Conservation Authority area on the Eramosa River, 84 km west of Toronto and about 20 min from Guelph. Karst cliffs, glacial potholes, caves and the 1880s Harris Woolen Mill ruins sit inside a small, walkable park. Most visitors come for a half day; campers stay one or two nights between May 1 and Oct 15.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- Trails run along steep gorges and cliffs; follow marked paths and watch children.
- The beach has no lifeguards and the river is a reservoir: currents change after heavy rain.
- Caves are open Apr 1–Oct 15 only; bats hibernate there in autumn and winter.
- Alcohol is banned at campsites on the Victoria Day and Labour Day long weekends.
- Store food and garbage in your car or park bins; never leave a campfire unattended.
Low-crime rural park; the real risks are cliff edges, unpatrolled water and thin ice in winter. Keep to marked trails and watch children near the gorge.
