Rockledge
Rockledge, Florida
Use Rockledge as a cheap, quiet base for the Space Coast: 2 nights, a car, and 20–30 min drives to Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center.
Rockledge is a suburban city of about 28,000 on the Indian River, on US-1 between Cocoa and Melbourne. It was Brevard County's first incorporated town (1887) and grew on citrus, the Intracoastal Waterway and, later, the space programme. There is little to sightsee in town: its value is beds, food and river access at lower prices than the beach towns, with the Space Coast 20–40 minutes away by car. Two nights covers it; three if you add a launch or a beach day.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Summer heat and afternoon storms Jun–Sep; hurricane season runs Jun–Nov — watch forecasts.
- US-1 and I-95 traffic is fast and heavy; jaywalking is not safe.
- Distances look short on the map but need a car; rideshare can be slow and pricey at night.
- Prices are shown before Florida sales tax; add roughly 7% at the till.
Rockledge is a low-crime suburban city; the real risks are highway driving, summer heat and storms, and rip currents at the beaches — swim near lifeguards.
