Robertsport

Give Robertsport 2–3 nights: surf the point breaks, swim in Lake Piso, then leave before dark — the 50 km road from Monrovia is rough.

Robertsport is Liberia's surf town, about 50 km north of Monrovia on the Atlantic coast, next to Lake Piso. Two or three nights covers the beaches, the surf and the lagoon. Roads beyond the main highway are unpaved, so a 4x4 and driver are the practical way in during the dry season.

Scams and watch-outs

  • The Monrovia–Robertsport road is unpaved in stretches and muddy in the rains: dry season only, and not after dark.
  • Some buildings still show civil-war damage; keep valuables out of sight.
  • Arrange your return driver before dark — there is little night transport.
  • Bring cash in US dollars or Liberian dollars; card acceptance is rare outside the lodges.

Robertsport is calm in daylight and the main risks are the road, the dark and petty theft. Don't drive the coastal road at night, keep cash and phones out of sight on the beach, and treat 911 as a number with limited response — your lodge or driver is the faster help.
