Riverside is California's 12th-largest city and the seat of Riverside County, about 55 mi (roughly 1 h 15 min) east of downtown Los Angeles on the CA-60. It grew on navel oranges and higher education, and its walkable core is small: the Mission Inn, three museums and a pedestrian mall sit within a few blocks. Most travellers see it as a half-day break between Los Angeles and the desert, or as a cheaper bed for the Inland Empire.
