The Riverina is the flat, irrigated farming belt between the Hume Highway and the Murray: wheat, citrus, rice and more wine grapes than any other region in New South Wales. It is not a sight-per-hour destination. It rewards a two-night stop on the Sydney–Melbourne drive: Wagga Wagga or Albury as the base, Griffith if you want wineries, and the Murray towns if you want river time. Driving straight through is a wasted 5–7 hours.
