Riihimäki is a rail junction 70 km north of Helsinki, where the Helsinki–Hämeenlinna line of 1862 met the line to Lahti and St Petersburg, and the town grew around the platforms. It is an industrial city of about 29,000 with a garrison and Finland's highest-security prison, and its sights are museums rather than streets: the Glass Museum in the old Riihimäen Lasi factory, the Art Museum, the Hunting Museum and the city museum. Almost everyone here is changing trains; the question is whether to break the journey.
