Rickmansworth

Skip as a base unless you have a reason: Rickmansworth is a half-day stop on the Metropolitan line, 35–45 min from central London.

Rickmansworth is a small Hertfordshire town at the meeting point of the Colne, Chess and Gade rivers and the Grand Union Canal, and the administrative centre of Three Rivers District. It is not a destination in its own right: the draw is the Aquadrome nature reserve, a short canal-and-river walk, a local history museum and easy rail access to London, the Chilterns and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour at Leavesden. Most visitors pass through on the Metropolitan line or use it as a quiet, cheaper bed for a London or Harry Potter Studio day.

Get around

The centre is compact and walkable. Rickmansworth station (Station Approach, WD3 1QY) has Chiltern Railways services between London Marylebone and Aylesbury plus the Metropolitan line between Baker Street and Amersham; Chorleywood station (WD3 5ND) is on the same two lines. Buses and longer walks reach outlying sights. National Cycle Route 6 (London–Lake District) and Route 61 (Maidenhead–Hertford) pass through town, and the Grand Union Canal runs south of the centre.
