Richmond is a small town of about 4,200 people on the eastern edge of the Champlain Valley, at the foot of the Green Mountains and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Interstate 89 at Exit 11. It works as a quiet, cheaper base for Burlington, Bolton Valley and the Mad River Valley rather than a destination in itself. One night covers the town; two or three nights if you ski or hike.

Get around
A car is close to essential: sights are spread across Richmond, Huntington and Bolton and there is no useful local bus. I-89 Exit 11 puts Burlington about 25 min north and Montpelier about 35 min south. In winter, fit snow tires or take an AWD vehicle for the Bolton Valley access road.
