The Triangle is three separate downtowns — Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill — plus a research park and suburbs in between. It is a car region: I-40 links everything, and a rental car costs less than the time you lose on buses. Sleep in Raleigh for the state museums and the biggest food and bar spread, in Durham for Duke, the performing arts and the ballpark, in Chapel Hill for a walkable college town. Two nights covers one city well; four nights covers all three.
