Redondo Beach
Give Redondo Beach one full day and two nights if you want a calm beach base: pier and King Harbor in the morning, Riviera Village and the Esplanade in the afternoon.
Redondo Beach is the quietest of the three South Bay beaches, 9 mi (about 20–30 min by car) from LAX. It is a base, not a sightseeing city: a pier, a harbour, a low-key village and a long beach. Two nights covers it; three if you add Palos Verdes or a day in LA.

Get around
Beach Cities Transit and Torrance Transit run the local buses and accept TAP cards (same card as LA Metro) and cash. The Metro C Line (formerly the Green Line) has a Redondo Beach station, but it sits inland, not at the beach: you still need a bus or car to reach the water. Parking meters along the Esplanade and pier lots are the practical option; a car helps for Palos Verdes and LA.
