Ratlam is a market town in Malwa known for its gold, saris and the spicy snack Ratlami Sev. The main sights — a cactus garden, a Jain temple with an emerald statue and a few old bazaars — can be seen in a few hours. Most travellers use it as a lunch stop or a base for Mandu and Omkareshwar.
