Torre Salsa is a roadless strip of southern Sicilian coast between Siculiana and Montallegro: white marl cliffs, clay slopes, dunes and a long beach with no buildings on it. WWF Italia manages it, and it is part of the Natura 2000 network. There are no shops, no cafés and no accommodation inside, so the visit is a walk, a swim and a picnic. Loggerhead turtles nest on the sand in summer, which is the main reason the rules are strict.

Walking in is free: there is no ticket desk at the boundary and no gate fee. You pay only for parking at the informal access lots (2026 estimate, €0–5) and for a guided walk with WWF Italia if you book one (2026 estimate, €5–15 a person).
What are the best hikes in Torre Salsa Nature Reserve?
The Monte Cupolone viewpoint is the main climb, about 2 h return from the Pantano parking area, with views over the dunes and wetlands. The watchtower walk through dunes and clay to the 16th-century tower takes 2–3 h. Shorter options are the Cannicella belvedere and beach, and the Dama Bianca cliffs.
When is the best time to visit Torre Salsa Nature Reserve?
April, May, September and October: dry paths, mild temperatures and few people. June to August is hot with no shade, and the beach is at its busiest in August. Winter is quiet but the clay tracks are often muddy.
Do I need a car to reach Torre Salsa?
Yes. There is no public transport to the reserve. Drive west from Agrigento on SS115 toward Siculiana or Montallegro, then follow signs for the reserve; the last stretch is unpaved and rough after rain.
Can I swim at Torre Salsa?
Yes, from the beaches along the reserve, but there are no lifeguards, no facilities and no shade. Watch for currents and swim near other people. The naturist stretch in the middle of the reserve is tolerated rather than official.
Are there turtles at Torre Salsa?
The reserve is a loggerhead turtle nesting site, with nesting from June to September. Nests are roped off; stay outside the markers, keep lights off at night and keep dogs away.
Is there anywhere to eat or sleep inside the reserve?
No. There are no cafés, kiosks or accommodation inside. Bring water and a packed meal, and sleep in Siculiana, Montallegro, the coastal agriturismi or Agrigento.
