Erbil is the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and one of the country's largest cities. The Citadel, a mound continuously inhabited for thousands of years and a UNESCO World Heritage site, sits above the Qaysari Bazaar and a modern centre of malls and parks. It runs its own international airport and, for most nationalities, its own on-arrival visa, separate from federal Iraq.
