- Oceania ↗Oceania's island states guard their farms and reefs at the border: tick 'yes' on the arrival card for any food, plant, animal product, soil or used outdoor gear, and let the officer decide.
- Oceania ↗Across the tropical South Pacific, cyclones are possible from November to April: choose insurance that covers weather delays and keep one spare night before a long-haul departure.
- Australia and New Zealand ↗Both countries drive on the left, with long distances between fuel stops in the outback and on New Zealand's back roads; fatigue causes more visitor crashes than speed.
- Australia ↗Almost every visitor needs a visa or an electronic authorisation (ETA or eVisitor, depending on passport) before boarding: apply only through the official Department of Home Affairs site or the official AustralianETA app, and check the rules for your passport.
- Australia ↗Declare all food, plant material, seeds, wood and animal products on your arrival declaration; undeclared items can bring on-the-spot fines or visa cancellation. When unsure, declare it.
- Australia ↗Drive on the left. An overseas licence in English (or with an official translation or International Driving Permit) is accepted for visitors; check the state rules and your rental contract.
- Australia ↗Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rip currents cause most beach drownings.

Bald Rock is the largest granite monolith in Australia: a bare dome about 750 m long and 500 m wide, rising roughly 200 m above the surrounding bush on the New South Wales–Queensland border country. The park is small, the entry is free, and the whole visit is one walk — the Bald Rock Summit loop — plus a campground at the trailhead. It pairs naturally with the granite country around Tenterfield and with the bigger New England parks to the south.

Accessibility
- The picnic area, toilets and campground are reachable by car with short, level walks.
- The summit track climbs steep bare rock and is not suitable for wheelchairs or limited mobility.
Visiting lightly

- Take all rubbish out; the park has no bins beyond the campground and picnic area.
- Book the campground rather than camping informally, and keep to the fire rules.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Bald Rock National Park?
Entry is free; there is no gate or ticket for the park (check). You pay only if you camp at the Bald Rock campground, which must be booked with NSW National Parks.
What are the best hikes in Bald Rock National Park?
The Bald Rock Summit walking track is the main walk: a 3.2 km loop, 1–2 hours, finishing at the trig lookout on top of the monolith. There is no other long marked trail in the park, so most visitors do this one and then drive on to Tenterfield or the New England parks.
When is the best time to visit Bald Rock National Park?
April, May, September and October give mild days and dry rock. Summer (December–February) is hot and stormy, so start at first light; winter days are clear but the summit is cold and windy, with ice possible on the slabs in July.
How long does the Bald Rock summit walk take?
Most walkers take 1–2 hours for the 3.2 km loop. Add time at the top for the views, and more if you stop on the lower sections.
Can you drive to the top of Bald Rock?
No. The road ends at the trailhead and picnic area; the summit is reached only on foot, with a steep bare-rock section near the top.
Is Bald Rock National Park worth visiting?
Yes if you are already in the Tenterfield or New England area: it is a short, free stop with a genuine summit. It is not worth a dedicated long drive on its own — combine it with Tenterfield and the larger parks nearby.
