Know before you go

  • This is a nature reserve with a gate fee, about an hour's drive from the City Bowl each way (Chapman's Peak or the inland Ou Kaapse Weg route — check road status, as Chapman's Peak closes in high wind or after rain).
  • The reserve road is slow by design: 30–40 minutes to drive its length, with stopping points for eland, ostrich, bontebok and, near the coast, baboons.
  • Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope are two different viewpoints a short drive or walk apart inside the same reserve; do both if time allows.
  • The old lighthouse sits above the car park: a funicular (paid, separate small fee) or a 10–15 minute climb on foot.
  • Wind is near-constant, strongest in summer (the "Cape Doctor" south-easter); secure hats and loose items.

How long does the trip take from central Cape Town?
