Prespa is a transboundary lake basin at about 850 m in the far northwest of Greece, shared with Albania and North Macedonia. Two lakes — Megali Prespa and Mikri Prespa — sit under mountains over 2,000 m, with villages of stone houses, 10th-century Byzantine churches and hermitages cut into the lakeshore rock. It is a Ramsar wetland and a European Important Bird Area, holding the world's largest breeding colony of Dalmatian pelicans. There is no single gated entrance and no ticket to the park as a whole: you pay for boats, museums and the occasional church, not for entry.
