Rules in force · 9Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Iberia ↗Plan meals on the Iberian clock: Spanish kitchens serve lunch from about 13:30–14:00 and dinner from 20:30–21:00; Portugal eats an hour or so earlier. Early evenings are for tapas or petiscos, not full meals.
- Iberia ↗Inland Spain and Portugal (Seville, Córdoba, Madrid, the Alentejo) pass 40 °C in heatwaves from late June to August: sightsee before 11:00 and after 18:00, and keep July–August for the coasts and the green north.
- Iberia ↗Andorra and Gibraltar have their own border and customs rules and are reached only through Spain (or France for Andorra); read their pages before adding them, especially if you hold a limited Schengen visa.
- Spain ↗Spain is in the Schengen area. Check the entry rules for your passport on official sources; the EU's Entry/Exit System registers non-EU visitors at the first Schengen border, and further pre-travel authorisation rules are being introduced.
- Spain ↗High-speed trains have airport-style baggage screening at the station and boarding gates that close a few minutes before departure: arrive early.
- Spain ↗Carry your passport or ID: police may ask for it, and hotels must register every guest's document.
- Spain ↗The Alhambra in Granada and the Sagrada Família in Barcelona sell timed tickets that sell out weeks ahead in season; book on the official sites before you fix your dates.

Cap de Creus is the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula: a dry, wind-scoured peninsula of schist and slate where the Tramuntana wind has stripped the vegetation down to low maquis. It became Catalonia's first maritime-terrestrial natural park in 1998, protecting about 10,813 ha of land and 3,073 ha of sea. There is no entry ticket for the park itself; the costs are parking, the monastery and the Dalí house at Portlligat. Most visitors come for the drive to the lighthouse and the Camí de Ronda coastal path, and both are best before the tour buses arrive.

Why go
- The lighthouse at the cape is the easternmost point of mainland Spain, reached by a road that ends at the cliff.
- The Camí de Ronda links Cadaqués to Cala Nans and on toward Portlligat, with coves you can only reach on foot.
- The geology is bare schist and slate — a dry, folded landscape that drew Dalí and still draws walkers.
- The marine zone protects seagrass meadows and coral, so snorkelling off the rocky coves is worthwhile in calm weather.

Time out
Finding the local time zone…
Times are local to the spot (zone loading). The half-hour margin is our rule of thumb, not an official figure; light fades earlier in forest or under cloud. Carry a headlamp on any route that could run late.
Accessibility
- The lighthouse road and the Pla de Tudela area can be seen by car with short, level walks.
- The Camí de Ronda and the climb to Sant Salvador castle are steep and rocky; not suitable for limited mobility.
Visiting lightly
- Stay on marked paths; the low maquis recovers slowly from trampling.
- Do not anchor on seagrass or take anything from the marine zone.
- Park in the designated car parks rather than on verges, and take rubbish out with you.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Cap de Creus Natural Park?
Nothing — there is no entry ticket for the park. You pay for parking at the main car parks (about €6–8 a day in season, 2026 estimate), €6 for Sant Pere de Rodes monastery and a timed ticket for the Dalí house at Portlligat.
What are the best hikes in Cap de Creus Natural Park?
The Camí de Ronda from Cadaqués to Cala Nans (2–3 h return) is the classic coastal walk. Shorter paths loop around the Cap de Creus lighthouse, and a steeper footpath climbs from Sant Pere de Rodes to Sant Salvador castle.
When is the best time to visit Cap de Creus Natural Park?
April, May, September and October give mild, dry weather and thinner crowds. July and August are hot and busy, so arrive before 9:30 and walk rather than drive to the lighthouse.
Do I need a car to visit the park?
A car is the easiest way to reach the lighthouse and the western coves, but public transport is limited. From Cadaqués you can walk the Camí de Ronda without a car, and seasonal buses run to some points (check).
Can I swim or dive in the park?
Yes, in calm weather. The marine zone protects seagrass and reef, so use a licensed dive centre for regulated sites and never anchor on the meadows.
