Cuckmere Haven is where the River Cuckmere cuts through the South Downs to meet the English Channel between Seaford and Eastbourne, and it is the meanders — not the beach — that people come for. The valley floor is Seven Sisters Country Park, about 280 ha of saltmarsh, flood plain and oxbow lakes, with the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters rising immediately east. There is no entrance fee and no gate: you pay for parking, walk a flat 2.5 km path to the shingle, or climb to the clifftop for the view back over the bends. It is a half-day stop on the A259, easily paired with Seaford Head, Beachy Head or a bus from Brighton or Eastbourne.
