Nahanni protects the South Nahanni River (Naha Dehé) and four canyons cut up to 1,000 m deep through the Mackenzie Mountains, about 500 km west of Yellowknife. There are no public roads: you arrive by floatplane or on foot, and most visitors see only the stretch from Virginia Falls (Nailicho) downstream. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a national park reserve on Dene land, and one of the least-visited parks in Canada.
