Albufera is Spain's largest lake, an hour south of Valencia by city bus, and the whole park — lagoon, pine spit, beaches, rice paddies and the village of El Palmar — is free to enter. The money goes on transport (€1.50 each way on EMT 24 or 25), a short boat on the lagoon, and paella cooked over wood in El Palmar. Winter (October–March) is the birding season, when wildfowl fill the lagoon and the fixed fishing posts with nets go up at the Gola del Pujol; summer is for the Devesa beaches, with mosquitoes and weekend crowds as the price. There are no mountains here: the walking is flat, and the best routes are the Racó de l'Olla nature trail, the dune paths behind the beaches, and the 27 m Muntanyeta dels Sants near Sueca.

- Platja de Pinedo, Platja d'El Saler and Platja del Recatí have disabled access; El Saler and Pinedo also have showers and picnic tables.
- The EMT 24 and 25 buses are low-floor; the bike trail is paved and separate from traffic.
Visiting lightly
- Do not feed or approach birds; keep to the hides and the marked trail at Racó de l'Olla.
- Book boats that stay on the lagoon channels and do not disturb reedbed nesting areas.
- Eat rice dishes in El Palmar or El Saler so the villages that farm the paddies keep the income.
- Take the bus or bike from Valencia; parking at the Gola del Pujol and the beaches is limited.
