El Puerto is the quiet third corner of the sherry triangle, 35 min by train from Cádiz and 20 min from Jerez. Two nights covers the castle, the bodegas and one beach day; more only if you want to slow down. Beaches sit 2.5–4 km from the centre, so plan on buses, bikes or a taxi. It is a domestic-holiday town, not a sightseeing checklist.

Getting around

The centre is walkable; the beaches are not. Puerto Bus runs seven town routes, and Cercanías trains stop at Valdelagrana and Las Aletas for the southern beaches and the Los Toruños wetland. Taxis rank at the station and the ferry pier. Foot-passenger ferries cross the bay to Cádiz hourly; in rough seas a replacement bus runs.

Watch out

Safety

A calm, low-crime town by Spanish standards. The real risks are Atlantic currents and high tide on the beaches, summer heat, and pickpockets in the Cádiz ferry and market crowds.
  • Atlantic beaches lose sand at high tide and are exposed to wind — check the tide before you commit to a beach day.
  • Only two of the town's seven bodegas still run tours; book ahead in high season.
  • Monasterio de la Victoria is closed and awaiting repair — you can only see the church portal from outside.
  • Some old-town hotels sit in former bodegas or palaces with thin walls and event nights: ask about functions before booking.
  • Levante beach is a 3 km walk from the car parks; use the train to Las Aletas and walk west instead.
