Platja d'Aro is a Costa Brava beach resort built around one long sandy bay and a promenade of hotels, bars and restaurants. It has no old town of note and no train station, so it works as a beach base rather than a sightseeing stop. Two or three nights covers the beach, the Camí de Ronda coves and one day trip; a car or a bus gets you to Girona, Figueres or Barcelona.

Getting around

The resort is flat and walkable: beach to old-town church is about 10–15 min on foot. Local buses run along the coast to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Palamós and Girona; a car helps for coves, golf and inland villages. There is no train station in town.

Watch out

Safety

A safe, busy resort town; the real risks are sea conditions and steep beach entry, summer pickpocketing on the promenade and nightlife strip, and heat in Jul–Aug.
  • No train station: nearest rail is Caldes de Malavella (about 30 km) or Girona (about 42 km), then bus or taxi.
  • Parking near the beach fills by mid-morning in Jul–Aug; use paid car parks or hotel parking.
  • Beach entry slopes are steep at Platja Gran and Sa Conca; watch children and weak swimmers.
  • Nightlife strip gets rowdy on summer weekends; pick a room away from Avinguda de s'Agaró if you want quiet.
  • Many restaurants and clubs close outside Jun–Sep: check before booking a shoulder-season trip.
