Know before you go

  • Funafuti has one runway and only a few flights a week, so on other days it doubles as a football pitch, a playground and a walking path. This is normal here, and it is why the siren exists.
  • Tides can flood low ground near the airstrip in the king-tide months (around February and March): ask your guesthouse for the tide table and avoid low spots on those days.
