Weddin Mountains is a small, free national park in the NSW Central West, about 85 km west of Cowra: a low range of ridges and box-ironbark gullies with short walks from Holy Camp, two free NPWS campgrounds, and one long grade 5 climb to Eualdrie lookout. It suits a half day on the drive between Cowra and Grenfell rather than a dedicated trip, and it is at its best in autumn and spring, when days are mild and the tracks are dry. Summer brings mid-30s °C heat, total fire bans and no water on any trail.

Times are local to the spot (zone loading). The half-hour margin is our rule of thumb, not an official figure; light fades earlier in forest or under cloud. Carry a headlamp on any route that could run late.
Accessibility
- Lynchs loop and the Holy Camp picnic area are the easiest options for limited mobility; the loop is well developed but unsealed.
- Berthas Gully, Eualdrie and the long loop are rough, rocky and steep; not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
- The final roads into the park include unsealed sections; a standard car is usually fine in dry weather (check).
Visiting lightly
- Stay on marked tracks; the soils and flora on the ridges recover slowly.
- Carry out all rubbish, including food scraps, and use the campground toilets.
- Do not pick wildflowers or remove relics from Seaton's Farm or the cave area.
- Keep campfires small and only in supplied fireplaces.

How much does it cost to enter Weddin Mountains National Park?
Nothing. Day entry is free and there is no ticket gate. Camping at Holy Camp and Ben Halls campground is also free, but you must book a site with NSW National Parks before you arrive. A NSW annual parks pass (2026 estimate A$65–190) only pays off if you also visit parks that charge entry.
What are the best hikes in Weddin Mountains National Park?
For a short walk, Lynchs loop trail (2.5 km, about 1 h) is the easiest and best developed. Berthas Gully (3 km return, 2–3 h) is the classic gully walk. Eualdrie walking track (4.8 km return) follows an old logging trail. The big day is Basin Gully to Eualdrie lookout: 9 km, grade 5, 6–7 hours. The Weddin Gap to Black Spring loop is 23.5 km and can be done with an overnight camp.
When is the best time to visit Weddin Mountains National Park?
April, May, September and October. Days are mild, the tracks are dry and spring brings wildflowers. Avoid January and February, when temperatures push into the mid-30s °C and total fire bans can close the park to walkers. Winter is fine for walking but cold at night if you camp.
Can I camp in the park?
Yes. Holy Camp and Ben Halls campground are free NPWS sites and need an online booking. Bush camping is allowed along the longer trails. There is no lodge or cabin accommodation in the park; the nearest motels are in Grenfell and Cowra.
Do I need a 4WD to get to Weddin Mountains National Park?
Usually not. The route from Cowra via the Mid-Western Highway and Black Piney Range Road is mostly sealed, with unsealed sections near the park. A standard car is fine in dry weather, but check conditions after rain, when gravel roads can be slippery.
Is there phone signal and drinking water in the park?
Expect patchy or no mobile signal away from the main roads, and no reliable drinking water anywhere in the park. Carry all the water you need, fill your fuel tank in Cowra or Grenfell, and tell someone your route before you set out.
