- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.
- Prairies ↗A car is the default; outside the big three cities transit is thin and distances are long.
- Prairies ↗Prices are shown before sales tax; it is added at the till.
- Manitoba ↗8% provincial sales tax is added to most retail prices on top of 5% federal GST; posted prices exclude both.
- Manitoba ↗Drinking age is 18, lower than most Canadian provinces.

Beaudry Provincial Park is a 950-hectare strip of riverbottom forest and tall-grass prairie on the south bank of the Assiniboine River, about 10 km west of Winnipeg past Headingley. Manitoba began assembling the land in 1975 from private holdings, most of it the former Beaudry Farm of Winnipeg businessman J. D. Perrin, named after a Grand Trunk Pacific railway station that once stood on the line. The hand-cut trails through basswood, cottonwood and maple are the closest real forest walk to the city, and they double as cross-country ski and snowshoe routes in winter. There is no camping, no lodging and no entry fee, so treat it as a half-day outing from Winnipeg rather than a destination park.

Time out
Finding the local time zone…
Times are local to the spot (zone loading). The half-hour margin is our rule of thumb, not an official figure; light fades earlier in forest or under cloud. Carry a headlamp on any route that could run late.
Accessibility
- The gravel parking area and the start of the main forest path are level and reachable by car.
- Trails are unpaved and can be muddy or snow-covered; there are no paved or wheelchair-graded loops.
Visiting lightly
- Stay on the cut trails: the riverbottom forest and tall-grass prairie are the reason the land was protected.
- Do not feed or approach deer and other wildlife; keep dogs leashed.
- Carry out all rubbish — facilities are minimal and there is no camping to support a clean-up crew.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Beaudry Provincial Park?
Nothing in recent years — Beaudry has not charged an entry or vehicle fee, and parking is free. Manitoba park fees change, so confirm the current policy before you drive out (check).
What are the best hikes in Beaudry Provincial Park?
The riverbottom forest loop on the south bank is the main walk: flat, shaded and 1–2 hours. Add the tall-grass prairie section for open views, and in winter the same trails are used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. There is no long backcountry route.
When is the best time to visit Beaudry Provincial Park?
May, June, September and October. Spring is green with birds back but mosquitoes start; September and October are cool, dry and quiet, with fall colour in the riverbottom forest. July and August are hot with ticks and mosquitoes in the grass.
Can you camp at Beaudry Provincial Park?
No. Camping is not permitted and there is no lodging in the park. Sleep in Winnipeg, 20–30 minutes east, or in Headingley just outside the gate.
