Rules in force · 9Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Iberia ↗Plan meals on the Iberian clock: Spanish kitchens serve lunch from about 13:30–14:00 and dinner from 20:30–21:00; Portugal eats an hour or so earlier. Early evenings are for tapas or petiscos, not full meals.
- Iberia ↗Inland Spain and Portugal (Seville, Córdoba, Madrid, the Alentejo) pass 40 °C in heatwaves from late June to August: sightsee before 11:00 and after 18:00, and keep July–August for the coasts and the green north.
- Iberia ↗Andorra and Gibraltar have their own border and customs rules and are reached only through Spain (or France for Andorra); read their pages before adding them, especially if you hold a limited Schengen visa.
- Spain ↗Spain is in the Schengen area. Check the entry rules for your passport on official sources; the EU's Entry/Exit System registers non-EU visitors at the first Schengen border, and further pre-travel authorisation rules are being introduced.
- Spain ↗High-speed trains have airport-style baggage screening at the station and boarding gates that close a few minutes before departure: arrive early.
- Spain ↗Carry your passport or ID: police may ask for it, and hotels must register every guest's document.
- Spain ↗The Alhambra in Granada and the Sagrada Família in Barcelona sell timed tickets that sell out weeks ahead in season; book on the official sites before you fix your dates.

Collserola is the wooded hill range that Barcelona sits against: roughly 8,000 hectares of pine and oak, ridgelines and hermitages, reachable by commuter train in under 30 minutes from the city centre. There is no gate and no entry fee, which makes it the cheapest half-day out of Barcelona. The trade-off is that the easy, famous parts — Carretera de les Aigües, Tibidabo — fill up on weekend mornings, while the quieter western and northern sectors stay empty.

Accessibility
- The Carretera de les Aigües is a wide, near-level gravel track and is the most accessible walking route in the park.
- FGC stations at Baixador de Vallvidrera and Les Planes have step-free access to the platform; the walk from the station into the park is on roads and tracks.
- Tibidabo's summit area is reachable by road and by the cable car, but the walking routes up are steep and uneven.
Visiting lightly
- Take the FGC train rather than driving; parking near Tibidabo fills early and the roads are narrow.
- Do not feed the wild boar — habituated animals become a management problem and a safety risk.
- Stay on marked tracks in spring to protect nesting and wildflower areas.
- Carry out all rubbish; the park has few bins away from car parks.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Collserola Natural Park?
Nothing. There is no gate and no entry fee for the natural park itself. Your only cost is getting there — an FGC commuter train ticket from Barcelona (roughly €2–3 each way, 2026 estimate). Attractions inside the boundary, such as Tibidabo amusement park and the Fabra Observatory, charge separately.
What are the best hikes in Collserola Natural Park?
For an easy walk, the Carretera de les Aigües: about 9 km of flat gravel track along the ridge with continuous views over Barcelona. For something steeper, climb from Vallvidrera to Tibidabo (1.5–2.5 h). For a quieter half day, walk to the Sant Medir hermitage from the Sant Cugat side.
When is the best time to visit Collserola Natural Park?
March to May and October are the best months: mild temperatures, dry tracks and good visibility. Avoid July and August, when it is hot, the ridge has little shade and fire-risk rules can close access tracks at short notice.
How do I get to Collserola from Barcelona?
Take the FGC S1 or S2 train from the city centre to Baixador de Vallvidrera or Les Planes and walk in — about 25–35 minutes from Plaça Catalunya. You can also reach the ridge from Vall d'Hebron by metro and bus, or drive and use the free car parks at Can Coll, Forat del Vent or Santa Creu d'Olorda.
Are there wild boar in Collserola?
Yes, and they are common near picnic areas. They are habituated to people, so do not feed them, keep food and rubbish packed away, and give them space — especially if you have a dog.
Do I need a permit to walk in Collserola?
No permit is needed for walking. Mountain biking on single-track is restricted, and attractions like Tibidabo and the Fabra Observatory need their own bookings.
