Narriearra Caryapundy Swamp National Park was created in 2021 when the state bought Narriearra station, then enlarged with Caryapundy station in 2022. It protects a rare inland wetland: when the creeks run, Caryapundy Swamp fills and thousands of waterbirds arrive. Most of the year it is dry red country of stony plains, sandhills and old station tracks. There is no visitor centre, no shop and no reliable water. Treat it as a remote outback drive with a birdwatching stop at the end, not a manicured park.
