Cape Arid is the easternmost national park in Western Australia and the emptiest of the Esperance parks: white beaches, granite headlands and the Russell Range, with almost no visitor infrastructure. Most travellers see Cape Le Grand and stop there; Cape Arid rewards the extra 100 km with beaches you may have to yourself, but it costs a full day and a sealed-road drive with no services at the end.

- There is no potable water in the park. Carry all you need, at least 3–4 L per person per day in warm months.
- Fires
- Campfires are restricted and banned on total fire ban days; check the day's rating before lighting anything.
- Dogs and pets
- Not allowed in the national park; leave them in Esperance.
- Driving off-road
- Stay on formed tracks; the sand-plains and heath are easily damaged and vehicles get bogged.
- Wildlife
- Do not feed or approach wildlife; the ground parrot population is tiny and disturbance matters.
- Rubbish
- No bins. Take everything back to Esperance.

- Stay on tracks: the coastal heath and sand-plains take decades to recover from tyre damage.
- Take all rubbish back to Esperance; there are no bins in the park.
- Report western ground parrot sightings to the parks service rather than chasing the bird.
- Use a chemical toilet or the campground facilities; bury nothing in the dunes.

What are the best hikes in Cape Arid National Park?
There are no long marked trails. The realistic walks are the beach and headland at Thomas River and Barrier Anchorage (1–2 h, easy to moderate), the Mount Ragged wildflower walk (2–4 h, moderate, best in September) and the rough off-track climb to Tower Peak in the Russell Range (3–5 h, hard, 4WD approach).
When is the best time to visit Cape Arid National Park?
April and September–October: mild days, calm seas and wildflowers, without the heat and flies of midsummer. Winter is wet, windy and cold at night, and midsummer can bring hot spells and total fire bans.
Can I visit Cape Arid without a 4WD?
Yes, partly. Fisheries Road is sealed and the Thomas River area and campground are reachable in a normal car. The Russell Range, Tower Peak and Mount Ragged need a 4WD and, realistically, a second vehicle.
Is there anywhere to eat or buy fuel in the park?
No. There is no shop, fuel or potable water in the park. Bring all food and water from Esperance, 156 km west, and fill the tank before you leave town.
How does Cape Arid compare with Cape Le Grand?
Cape Le Grand is 40 minutes from Esperance with famous beaches and more visitors; Cape Arid is another 100 km east, far emptier, with no facilities and rougher access. If you have one day, do Cape Le Grand; if you have two and a full tank, add Cape Arid.
