Karkaraly National Park protects granite hills, pine forest and small lakes rising out of the steppe in Kazakhstan's Central Highlands, with the town of Karkaraly at their foot. It grew out of a forest reserve set aside in 1884 and became a national park in 1998; today it covers 112,120 ha across four blocks, of which about 44,340 ha is forested. The nearest lakes — Shaitankol, Baceen, Three Caves — are walkable from town, while the Kent Mountains block, the strongest argali ground, opens only through a park tour booked about a week ahead. Trails are faint and maps unreliable, so plan around the popular routes near town and treat anything further as a guided day.

- The lakes closest to town (Baceen, Shaitankol) are walkable on foot from Karkaraly, but the ground is rough granite and dirt, not paved.
- The Kent Mountains and the higher viewpoints need a vehicle and steep walking; not suitable for limited mobility.
