Fray Bentos
Go for one night if you want the UNESCO meat-plant museum; skip it if you are not interested in industrial history.
Fray Bentos is a small river port on the Uruguay River, known for the former Liebig and Anglo meat-packing plant that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town itself is quiet and walkable, with a handful of museums and a waterfront rambla. Most travellers come for the industrial museum and stay one night, often as a break on the overland route between Uruguay and Argentina.
