Serra de Montsant is a free, road-ringed limestone range in the Priorat, about 10 km west of Poblet Natural Park and 1–1.5 h from Reus. There is no gate, no ticket and no booking for the marked trails: you park in a village such as La Morera de Montsant or Cornudella de Montsant and walk up one of the graus, the stepped rock passages that are the only way onto the bare Serra Major ridge. Roca Corbatera, at 1,163 m, is the high point. The park was declared in 2002 to protect its geology, plants, birds and the Carthusian heritage of Escaladei, the first Carthusian monastery in the Iberian Peninsula. Cliffs on the southern side hold golden eagles, Bonelli's eagles, peregrine falcons and eagle owls, and the limestone around Margalef and Espadelles carries over 2,000 climbing routes. April, May and October are the months to walk; July and August push 40°C on the western slopes, so start before 8:00 or stay off the ridge.

Accessibility
- Village car parks, the park office in La Morera de Montsant and the Escaladei monastery area are reachable by car with short, mostly level walks.
- The Serra Major, the graus and the gorge trails are steep, rough and not suitable for limited mobility.
Visiting lightly
- No entrance fee means the park is funded elsewhere: buy from village shops, eat in the Priorat and stay locally so the money stays in the area.
- Do not climb or walk into nesting sectors in spring; the cliffs hold one of Catalonia's richest bird assemblages.
- Take the bus or share a car where you can; village parking is small and fills on spring weekends.

How much does it cost to enter Serra de Montsant Natural Park?
Nothing. There is no entrance fee and no ticket booth for the natural park; the marked trails and village car parks are free. The only paid site inside the boundary is the Escaladei monastery, which sells its own ticket (2026 estimate €5–8).
What are the best hikes in Serra de Montsant Natural Park?
The Grau de la Grallera onto the Serra Major and on to Roca Corbatera (3–5 h, hard), the Camí de la Llibreria past El Pont Natural (2–3 h, easy), and the Congost de Fra Guerau river gorge between Ulldemolins and Margalef (half day, moderate).
When is the best time to visit Serra de Montsant Natural Park?
April, May and October. Spring has wildflowers and green ravines; October is dry, clear and mild, with the Priorat grape harvest. Avoid July and August midday heat, when the western slopes can reach 40°C.
Do I need a guide or permit to walk in the park?
No. The marked trails are open and free. A guide is only worth it for climbing, for off-trail routes or if you want the monastery and hermitage history explained.
How do I get to Serra de Montsant without a car?
Train to Reus or Falset, then a bus towards the Priorat villages; services are thin, so check times before you commit. A car is much easier for reaching the trailheads at La Morera de Montsant, Cornudella and Margalef.
Can I camp or sleep inside the park?
No. Camping and bivouac are not allowed on park land. Sleep in Cornudella de Montsant, La Morera de Montsant, Escaladei, Falset or Margalef, or at a campsite outside the boundary.
Is Serra de Montsant the same as Poblet Natural Park?
No. They are separate parks about 10 km apart in Tarragona province. Montsant is the higher, rockier one with the Serra Major ridge; Poblet protects the forest around Poblet monastery.
