Natural Bridges protects three stone spans cut by White Canyon in the high desert of southeastern Utah: Sipapu, Kachina and Owachomo, each visible from a rim overlook on a 9-mile one-way loop road. The monument became Utah's first National Park Service area in 1908 and the world's first International Dark Sky Park in 2007. It is small, quiet and far from the Moab crowds — most visitors see all three bridges and the Horsecollar Ruin cliff dwelling in half a day, and the canyon-floor trails add a closer look at the spans and the rock art on Kachina's abutment.

Accessibility

- The trails to the canyon floor involve steep stairs, ladders and rough rock; not suitable for wheelchairs or limited mobility.
- The visitor centre, restrooms and campground have accessible parking and paths (check).

- Pack out everything, including fruit peel; there are no bins on the trails.
- Do not walk on cryptobiotic soil crust — it takes decades to recover.
- Use a red torch at night to protect night vision and wildlife.
- Buy fuel, food and water in Blanding or Mexican Hat so the gateway towns keep the benefit.

What are the best hikes in Natural Bridges National Monument?
Owachomo is the easiest, 20–30 minutes on a short flat path. Sipapu is the classic: 1–1.5 hours with stairs and ladders down about 150 m to the canyon floor. Kachina is similar but steeper. The full Loop Trail links all three in 3–4 hours over roughly 14 km with no water.
When is the best time to visit Natural Bridges National Monument?
April, May, September and October: daytime highs around 15–27 °C and dry trails. Summer often passes 38 °C and brings monsoon storms and flash-flood risk in White Canyon. Winter is cold, with ice on trails and the loop road, and the visitor centre closes some days.
Do I need a reservation or permit?
No. Pay the entrance fee at the visitor centre or the self-serve station, then drive the loop. Camping at the 13-site campground is first-come, first-served with no reservation.
How long do I need at Natural Bridges?
Half a day covers the loop road, the Sipapu trail and the Horsecollar Ruin overlook. Add Owachomo if you have an hour. The full Loop Trail needs 3–4 hours on its own.
Can I see the bridges without hiking?
