Bruce Peninsula National Park protects 154 km² of the Niagara Escarpment where it meets Georgian Bay: dolostone cliffs, cobble beaches and the collapsed sea cave known as the Grotto. It sits beside Tobermory at the tip of the peninsula, about four hours by road from Toronto. The park is small and its headline sights are heavily used in July and August, so the practical question is not whether to go but how to get a parking slot and when to walk.

How much does it cost to enter Bruce Peninsula National Park?
Daily admission is about $8.50–9 CAD per adult (2026 estimate), paid at the gate or covered by a Parks Canada Discovery Pass. Camping, backcountry permits and yurts are charged separately. Grotto parking in summer needs a free timed slot booked in advance, on top of admission.
What are the best hikes in Bruce Peninsula National Park?
The Grotto and Indian Head Cove walk from Cyprus Lake is the headline route, about 30 minutes each way over rough rock. Halfway Log Dump to the Grotto is a quieter cliff-top alternative. The Bruce Trail runs the length of the park for a full-day walk, and the flat Cyprus Lake loop suits families.
When is the best time to visit Bruce Peninsula National Park?
June and September–October give the best mix of weather and space. July and August are warmest but busiest, and timed entry applies at the Grotto. Winter is quiet but cold, with most facilities closed and only winter camping available.
Do I need a reservation for the Grotto?
In summer, yes. Parking at the Grotto and Halfway Log Dump is by timed vehicle slot booked through the Parks Canada reservation service. Slots are released in advance and sell out on summer weekends, so book before you plan the drive.
Can I swim at the Grotto?
People do, but the water is cold all year, there are no lifeguards and the rock sides of the pool make getting out awkward. Halfway Log Dump and the cobble beaches are easier for a short dip.

Yes. Cyprus Lake has tent, trailer and RV sites plus ten yurts, and there are walk-in backcountry sites at Stormhaven and High Dump. There is no potable water at the campgrounds, and fires are only allowed in designated pits at Cyprus Lake.
How do I get to Bruce Peninsula National Park without a car?
It is difficult. There is no public bus to the trailheads; most visitors drive Highway 6 from Toronto or Owen Sound, or take the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Tobermory and drive the last few minutes. Check for seasonal shuttles from Tobermory in summer (check).
