Torremolinos is a beach town 12 km south of Málaga, built on a fishing village and now one of the Costa del Sol's biggest resorts. It works as a cheap, flat, train-connected base: Málaga airport is 11 min away and Málaga city about 20 min, so you can sleep by the sea and day-trip inland. The town itself is beaches, a pedestrian shopping street and seafood in La Carihuela, not monuments.

Getting around

The Cercanías line has five stations in town and runs every 20 minutes from early morning to late evening; a single inside Torremolinos is about €1.80 (2026 estimate). Local buses cover the outlying districts, about €1.60 a ride (2026 estimate). The seafront is walkable, but the climb from beach to town is steep stairs.

Watch out

Safety

Torremolinos is a busy resort and generally safe by day; the real risks are pickpockets on Calle San Miguel and the beach, and bar bills with no posted prices: ask the total before you sit.
  • The beach-to-town climb is stairs or a lift, not a gentle slope: plan the walk back with bags.
  • Bars and restaurants on the main strip vary widely in price and quality; read the posted menu before sitting.
  • The Renfe main site often does not list Torremolinos: use the Cercanías Málaga pages or buy at the station.
  • August is hot and packed; book beds and beach space ahead.
